Monica Hughes, a wonderful writer of SF and other literature for children and young adults, passed away from a stroke around noon on Friday. Although her name was not as big as some of the giants in our field, there is a large hole in the fabric today. Farewell, Monica.

Lots of giant Cheeto stuff now, most of it from this CNN story, wihc includes the quotes "This giant Chee-to could be a boon to our local economy" and 'He believes that some of the cheddar seasoning in the company's machines built up and plopped out in big blob.' To say nothing of my surprise to find out that actual cheese - 15 million pounds per year - is used to make this stuff.
The item itself is no longer up for auction, but digital-age folk art is, here and here and here and beyond. Much of it is of a sarcastic nature, obviously.
I don't know if it's the same company that makes Cheetos, but there is a slightly puffier product that, when placed on a pointy stick and then subjected to open flame (the sort of thing you do when you're sitting around the fire and acting stupid), will burn with a blue flame for a long time, never completely consuming itself. Mmmm, chemicals.
Blogging remains light while I deal with school and teaching. In the meantime, here's a trip that looks to be a bit of an adventure.
And speaking of adventures, next month Jo is taking me to San Francisco for my 40th. Here's a look at where we're staying.

Tomorrow is International Read a Comic Book Naked Day, which I think is important to know.
