Major Jack Veness has died at age 80, a true Canadian war hero. There's a great short-hand rendition of his story here.
I'll note that while Veness was fighting for our freedom, he had no leaders hiding in their holes back home daring the enemy to "Bring it on." Oi, what an idiot; just the sort of comment to make life that much more difficult for American soldiers in Iraq. Fanatical Apathy puts a few words into Dubya's mouth to follow that initial idiotic statement (link via Electrolite).

I've yet to visit New York, although I someday hope to. Randy's a fan, I know, and since today's the day that Gangs of New York is being released on DVD, I thought it would be neat to share a few sites that deal with the city's past.
